Over the next few weeks, I will be posting excerpts from a paper I wrote for one of my classes this past semester. The paper is about basketry in ancient Egypt. I begin with studying how basketry was made and what some of the uses of basketry was. I then describe a number of baskets from ancient Egypt, beginning with Predynastic baskets through to the Roman Period baskets. I note the changes in basketry weaving through time. Unfortunately, for this paper, I was unable to delve into the cultural meaning of the changes in basketry techniques. Perhaps I will be able to study that further at a later date.
