Hi Page,

Just wanted to say thanks! I enjoy your site very much.
I have a love of Ancient Egypt going back to my days as a schoolboy, and days on end spent in the British Museum and on digs.
Your articles bring the Egyptian world to life.
Please continue!

Kind regards,
Mike

Good article ! As usual. :)

I will add some remarks, to go further.
Some paintings on Naqada ceramics, such a "scale patterns", were an imitation of stone vessels; more generally, the shape of these ceramics were inspired by those of stone vessels.
Many studies and scientific articles have aimed to give a detailed chronology of these ceramics (which are the best materials to set a chronological frame for Predyastic Egypt). The work of sir W.M.F. Petrie, who first of all establish this frame with the famous "sequence dates", and more recently a story by Stan Hendrickx, "La chronologie de la préhistoire tardive et des débuts de l'histoire de l'Egypte", in Archéo-Nil 9 (1999), pages 13-81.
